Privacy policy

Your privacy on the Internet is of utmost importance to The Organizer. This privacy statement describes The Organizer’s policy concerning the gathering and sharing of visitors’ information through the Junior 8 (J8) Website. It applies to all “Junior 8 (J8) Websites” – that is, all sites within the “j8summit.com” domain name. You should note that through this site you may reach or be directed to other sites that relate to The Organizer; all these sites have their own privacy statements that are similar to this one but may vary slightly. By visiting the Junior 8 (J8) Website you are accepting the practices described in this policy.

What information does the Junior 8 (J8) Organizer collect?

Normal website usage

In general, you can browse the Junior 8 (J8) Website without telling us who you are or revealing any personal information about yourself. The only information we gather during general browsing is from standard server logs. These include your IP (Internet Protocol) address, domain name, browser type, operating system, and information such as the web site that referred you to us, the files you downloaded, the pages you visit, and the dates/times of those visits.

Collection of personally identifiable information

If you register for a newsletter, request information, provide feedback, join a discussion group or join an electronic mailing list, you will be asked to provide personal information such as your name, postal address and e-mail address. This information is collected only with your knowledge and permission, and is kept in various Junior 8 (J8) databases.

UNICEF sites with specific requirements to collect personal information may publish a privacy policy specific for that site. In these cases, the site-specific policies will be complementary to this general Junior 8 (J8) privacy policy, but will give additional details for that particular use.

Cookies

Like many websites, we use “session cookies” on the Junior 8 (J8) Website, but only once a registered team which has entered the competition logs onto the website. Cookies are bits of text that are placed on your computer’s hard drive when you visit certain websites. Cookies may enhance your online experience by saving your preferences while you are visiting a particular site and saving password and other registration details.

The “help” portion of the toolbar on most browsers will tell you how to stop accepting new cookies, how to be notified when you receive a new cookie, and how to disable existing cookies. Registered teams will only be able to log onto the website and use those features if their computer accepts cookies.

Web Beacons

Certain pages on our site contain “web beacons” (also known as Internet tags, pixel tags and clear GIFs). These web beacons allow third parties on our behalf to obtain information for the purposes of tracking usage of the website. Such information will include the IP address of the computer that downloaded the page on which the beacon appears, the URL of the page on which the beacon appears, the time the page containing the beacon was viewed, the type of browser used to view the page, and the information in cookies set by the third party. This information is anonymised and used for statistical purposes only.

Joining electronic discussion groups may mean that other participants of the discussion group (including non- UNICEF employees) will see personal information that you have volunteered. For open discussion groups, this information will be public.

Special note about information from children

Several sites in the Junior 8 (J8) and UNICEF domains are focused on children, including interactive sites such as group discussions. Some of these require user-specific information to be provided to The Organizer or to UNICEF. We ask for the minimum amount of personal information in this case.

These parts of the Junior 8 (J8) or UNICEF sites are for children and authorized adults only and unauthorized adults are not to participate in these parts of the Junior 8 or UNICEF sites. (Obtaining user information helps us in that regard if needed.)

Children should make sure their parents, or the adults who are caring for them, know they are participating in the Junior 8 (J8) sites and are providing this limited user information.
