L'AQUILA, Italy, 9 July 2009 – A select group of 14 young people have met with top leaders at the G8 Summit here yesterday and urged them to act on a set of recommendations aimed at protecting child rights around the world.  The youth delegates were selected by their peers at this week’s ‘Junior 8’ Summit in Rome – also known as the J8 – to present a declaration to the G8 world leaders.

 

While their 14 peers were on the way to meet the world leaders at the G8 Summit in L’Aquila, the remaining 40 Junior 8 participants went to present their declaration at the Italian Chamber of Deputies. The meeting took place in a grand hall adorned with medieval tapestries

ROME, Italy, 7 July 2009 – Bright young minds from around the world have gathered for the Junior 8 Summit, a week-long conference for young people to exchange and debate ideas about how to best improve global conditions for children.  On 9 July, a select group of delegates from the Junior 8, or 'J8', will personally present their recommendations to the world leaders at the Group of 8 Summit, which is also taking place in Italy

Junior 8: Climate change targets must be met, teachers’ standards improved

ROME, L’AQUILA, July 9 2009 - Fourteen young people from countries attending the G8 today called on their respective leaders to get tough with countries who don’t meet climate change targets and teachers whose standards slip.

At the meeting, the J8 representatives presented these recommendations and others for the 14 leaders attending the G8.
